Customs and Border Protection
Customs and Border Protection is the enforcement arm of the U.S. Government and is tasked with enforcing thousands of laws and regulations regarding the import and export of goods involving the United States. Faced with enforcing a daunting number of regulations on behalf of other U.S. Government agencies, it’s impossible for Customs to know the nuance of the regulations governing the import and export of firearms. This is where the Firearms Law Group excels. By knowing how the system works, by knowing how to apply exemptions, and by knowing how to present the correct information, we are able to provide positive solutions on behalf of clients.
An old adage says time is money. In the case of imports (and to a lesser degree, exports) daily storage fees incurred by Customs can make or break a transaction. In one instance, a CBP officer placed an in-bound shipment of gun parts on hold, pending presentation of an approved import permit. When confronted with an import permit exemption, the CBP officer initially refused to discuss the issue, and stood fast in his (erroneous) belief that an import permit was required. Using tact and diplomacy, we were able to get the shipment released under exemption, with a minimal amount of storage fees incurred.
Working in cooperatively with Bill Green of International Field Consultants, the Firearms Law Group is able to provide legal knowledge in conjunction with the practical expertise of a former senior level Customs official. By working together, Mr. Green and Mr. Wong are typically able to assist clients facing the seizure of international shipments, administrative fines, and the potential destruction of valuable commodities.
